Sue’s Retirement

‘Although I have now retired, I am keeping the website live for the historical information of forty years work.  This includes the exhibitions and beautiful work shown here in the video by Steve Putman at Hever Castle, the Faberge collections around the world, and other museums including the Kaye Browning Spencer House exhibition in Kentucky.

I am not taking any orders, but email me at  sue@johnjhodgson.com  if you are interested in any remaining stock.  Thank you to all our lovely customers and friends for their loyal custom over the years:  it has given John and I great pleasure and latterly since his death,  comfort and purpose for me.

Initially, after John died, Jessica helped with painting the pieces, and Ruthie upholstered the work. This last year, Ruthie has worked full time for me, completing all the orders, and introducing her wonderful curtains. However,  she is now returning to teaching full time in September;    their artistic talent has shown through in the painting and upholstering   of John’s furniture. ’

‘ I would like to thank Jessica and Ruthie for their help with the business after their father, John’s death.’

Who knows what the future holds?

Ruthie And Jess

The girls grew up watching John in his workshop at the bottom of the garden; they have always shown a keen interest in the miniature world.

Ruthie took on the role of upholstering the furniture, adding the finishing touches of braiding, and carefully choosing the fabrics and patterns.  She has also established our presence on Facebook and Instagram.  Jess took on the role of hand-painting our range of painted furniture, carefully adding the original gilt details that define many of our pieces.”    Sue and John

” As a child, I always loved joining Mum and Dad at the various miniature shows and I started collecting myself from an early age.  I have watched Dad over the years,  and he has taught me all his secret techniques to help me keep our products at the high standard our customers have come to expect.  I am loving being involved in the family business.”  Ruthie Rogerson

” It’s a real privilege to be closely involved in the business that I grew up watching my parents build.  Creating beautiful pieces of miniature furniture for our customers to treasure has always been at the heart of everything they’ve done.”  Jess Cooper
