Louis XV style hand-painted manilla/gilt carver chair with a bird design fabric taken from Anne’s bedroom at Fairfax House in York
The French Louis XV style of chair has scroll shaped legs and feet. There are shell motifs on the back legs, and a floral design with leaves on the front rail, and the top of the back. There is also an indented lower rail on the back.
There is also a settee and a side chair made in the same design to make up a beautiful set of furniture. These are used in elegant salons, drawing rooms, and spacious galleries.
You will see this style of chair in different fabrics in in the Model of Spencer House, now exhibited in the Kaye Savage Browning Museum of Miniatures in Kentucky.
