Description

The design of this hand-painted gilt chair (C1735)  was taken from a chair in the Queen’s drawing room at Windsor Castle.

Lion masks, shells and contorted faces were often features in furniture of this period.

The chair has cabriole legs at the front together with two lion claw and ball feet, and two pad feet on the back legs.

The back splat of the chair has been worked with a scroll and floral pattern rather like a strap work design, and the knees of the chair have  lion’s face masks  with rings in their mouths.

The chairs at Windsor castle are used as dining chairs around a circular table, but are ideal for a hall  or landing area where an odd chair is needed.  These are an English style of chair.

This chair has been hand-painted gilt and has been upholstered in red Chiswick upholstery

Other fabrics can be used for upholstery.
